PLC Guided Questions Activity:  Carousel Review-   Evidence of Practice
We had an interactive activity that allowed us to evaluate the PLC guided questions for this year.  Small groups were able to brainstorm evidence of practice in our building for these guided questions. We need to continue to ask ourselves these important guided questions as we continue to grow in our school improvement process.

1.  What is it we expect each student to learn?
(Curriculum guides/alignment/state and national standards, Pre -assessment/ Post-assessment, ACT content, MME, connect with exit curriculum, student learning goals, daily learning objectives, student hand book for acceptable behaviors and interpersonal interactions, post secondary goals and achievements, school procedures, responsibility, (personal management, self-initiative) respect/honesty, team player, application of knowledge, communication skills, everything.)

2.  How will we know when they have learned it?
(Be able to perform the task without assistance, success on test, from homework performance, classroom responses, helping other students, formative/summative assessments, discussion/application of prior knowledge, pre vs. post testing, standardized tests, projects, generalize (apply knowledge to a new situation,) Evidence of strong character, demonstrate meta-cognition.)

3.  How will we respond when they don’t learn?
(Re-teach concept, alternate teaching method, DLR/Assist/Tutoring, Parent contact, meet with teacher, team with other teachers, contact guidance counselor, different evaluation technique, supplemental material to clarify, peer review and teaching, teacher reflection (valid assessment method/teaching method,) retest, Pyramid of Interventions, Repeat class, Community Ed., Michigan virtual high school, differentiated learning for different learning styles, Assessment for Special education, 504, IEP, Change schedule, drop class, social service support.)

4.  How will we respond when they already know it?
(Test out prior to class, Move on in the curriculum of an entire class, supplement individual students, peer coach, peer teach, tutoring, celebrate success, Mentor students to grow strengths, pursue extra-curricular, co-curricular, Honors, AP, IB, dual enrollment, advancement, give awards, provide independent study opportunity, take on-line classes, student led review, differentiated instruction, data is key to make sure they already know it.)

Respectfully submitted,

Justin Walker, SBT chairperson
