Enrollment Information for Portage Public Schools

Overview

Portage enrolls students year-round. During the school year, please visit your school to enroll. During the summer with elementary and middle schools closed, you may enroll at the Administration Building located at 8107 Mustang Drive, Portage MI 49002.


Enrollment options

First Time Young 5s/Kindergarten Student

• Portage Public Schools operates within a neighborhood schools model as defined by the geographical boundaries established at the district level.  Families should expect, and are required, to enroll their children in the school(s) corresponding with their resident address. • Kindergarten Round-up begins in March with the School Readiness Parent meeting held the first Thursday in March at your neighborhood school. All students will be expected to complete a School Readiness Screening.

• To be eligible for enrollment in Young 5s/Kindergarten the student must be 5 years old by September 1.  Any student who turns 5 between September 2 and December 1 may also be eligible to enroll.  Contact your school office for more information.

• If your student will turn 5 after Dec. 1, please consider enrolling your student in one of our many Pre-School Programs. Click Here for more information.

Enrolling a New Student

Here is what you need to get your student started at PPS. The following materials are required to enroll.

Complete the Student Enrollment Form
Other Documents you will need:
___ Copy of Birth Certificate-Original must be verified
___ Proof of Residency- utility bill, rental/purchase agreement/property tax bill. We cannot accept a driver's license or voter registration card.
___ Immunization Records -click here for immunization information
___ Signed Concussion Awareness Form (haga clic aquí para español)
___ Internet User Agreement
___ Transfer of Student Record Request- Only if transfering from another school
___ Transportation Request Form -if student will be riding the bus
___ Special Education Services Form-only if your student has an IEP. Call 323-5010 to begin transfering your student's records/services
___ Hearing and Vision Screening- for Young 5 and Kindergarten only
___ Most recent report card- for high school students only

Non-Residents

The State of Michigan’s Schools of Choice program is an elective program. Portage Public Schools has elected to participate only with the 105c Schools of Choice program for out-of-county residents. However, there is still an opportunity to enroll in Portage Public Schools using our District Transfer Program.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 2, 2017. School Readiness Parent Information meetings will be held at each of our elementary schools at 6:30pm. Contact your neighborhood school for details.
