  12th Street Elementary - Now Open!
  • The Dedication and Community Open House was held on August 31 with more than 400 people attending. Dedication speakers included Principal Ron Jones; Mike Marshburn, VP of TMP Architecture; Jeff Jelke, Project Director with AVB-Triangle; Texas Township Supervisor Dave Healy; Portage Mayor Peter Strazdas; President Jennifer Whistler of the Board of Education; and Superintendent Marsha Wells.

  • This $14.8 million school (which includes $1.4 million in technology) is a two-story, 72,900 square feet school, with a capacity of approximately 500 students.
  • The school was designed to meet or exceed current 'green,' or sustainable design, standards for energy-efficiency, occupant comfort and air-quality. Materials used were selected for recycled content, future recyclability, low volatile-organic-compond, durability and ease of maintenance.
  • Four additional classrooms will be ready by fall 2010, bring the capacity up to 600 students. 
  Lake Center Elementary
  • The overall design is the same as 12th Street Elementary. See the current site plan.
  • Consruction has begun behind the existing school; the shell of the school is now up. A geo-thermal field has been installed and foundations for the school are going in.
  • Work improving traffic flow on Portage Road in front of the school is complete.

  Central High School
  • See conceptual drawings from the west and the north, and the site plan.. Construction is ongoing behind the school. The new school will be completed in time for fall 2011.
  • Ground-breaking ceremonies were held on May 22, featuring retired PPS superintendent Varl Wilkinson, who was superintendent when Central High was built in 1949.

  • Some classes, impacted by the construction, are being held at the old Waylee. See a picture of students walking to and from Waylee
  • The new Central will face Centre Avenue, and District teams are working with the City to ensure smooth traffic flow.

  Northern High School
  • Construction continues on the new Science Wing and for the Commons Area between the main part of the school and the Igloo. The Media Center was renovated over the summer.

  • The Idaho/Oregon intersection has been improved.
