Last year, Lake Center
joined several hundred other Michigan schools to adopt a framework for
school improvement which targets the reading achievement and social
development of our students. MiBLSi stands for Michigan’s Integrated Behavior & Learning
Support Initiative. A team consisting of school leadership,
teachers, reading and behavior specialists began attending work sessions
at KRESA intended to help us determine our building needs and possible
strategies to address them. Goals for reading and behavior have
been identified. Whole school lessons intended to teach SAILING
behavior to our students have been developed and taught. We
analyzed the five big ideas in literacy and determined that our students
need additional instruction in fluency and vocabulary building.
Teachers have attended training and have implemented new programs
designed to address these skills. This is an ongoing project with
data review periods conducted at regular intervals throughout the school
year.
For the 2012-13
School Year, Lake Center will open for students at 8:33 am,
instruction begins at 8:38 am.
Our mission is to create a safe and orderly school, where all children will acquire the skills necessary for achievement of their
maximum educational potential. Through the cooperative efforts of staff and parents, students will develop the knowledge, responsibility, and positive self-concept needed to become effective citizens in our ever changing, multicultural world.
