West Middle School is located in Portage, Michigan and serves about 690 students in grades six, seven and eight. West also serves as the Hearing Impaired middle school for Kalamazoo county.

West Students Give Back To Our Community

Food DriveCongratulations On A Fantastic Food Drive!
7,563 cans of food were collected for the pantry at the Portage Community Center. In addition, over $1000 in cash was raised for the purchase of additional items. Seven homerooms had 100% participation. Great job West! A special Thanks to the Wrestling Team for loading the truck and to the Student Leaders for sorting and boxing the items.Student Leaders Present Check

The Student Leader Haiti Fundraiser collected over $1800. The Student Leader officers presented Mr. Killips with a check for $1,835.81 to be sent to the American Red Cross for Haitian earthquake relief. The funds were raised by the students at the Winter Party as well as a collection at school. Congratulations to all of West's students for their selfless giving! The Talent Show will be held on Friday, April 30. Sign up for acts is taking place now through March 19 and tryouts will be held on April 19 & 20. Get all of the information about signup, required meetings and rehearsals by clicking here.

Tech Ed bridge projectHomework Club is a supervised and quiet setting for students to work on homework.  Students are expected to sign up in advance, arrive on time, work quietly, and have transportation arranged for a 4:00 p.m. pickup. You must sign up before 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday to attend Homework Club. If you have questions, contact Mrs. VanWinkle.

The Seasonal and H1N1 Influenza remain a concern in Portage Schools. For more information about influenza read the letter from the Kalamazoo County Health Department or visit the CDC site at http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/parents. As conditions change, information will be posted on this website as well as the PPS district site.

Help Student Leaders Get Cash For Your Trash! Student Leaders would like you to keep your eye out for the following recyclable items for empty inkjet cartridges and empty laser cartridges. West Middle School can earn cash for the used items you bring in. Just bring in your recyclables for donation to the media center or front office. This collection will be ongoing - we will collect items all year round. Help us get cash for your trash!
