West Middle School is located in Portage, Michigan and serves about 710 students in grades six, seven and eight. West also serves as the Hearing Impaired middle school for Kalamazoo county.

Welcome to the 2008-2009 School Year!
We're looking forward to seeing you at West. School will begin on September 2 at 7:43 a.m. for a half day. Dismissal will be at 11:00 a.m.
We have a new lunch provider this year. Check the announcements for the first week's lunches.

Summer Office Hours
For the balance of the summer the office hours will be:
August 22 - August 28 Open 8:00 - 4:00/Full Office Staff
August 29 - September 1 Closed for Extended Labor Day Weekend
Normal school hours begin on September 2 of 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Watch for the back to school sales to minimize your costs! Low cost headphones suitable for use at school are available at dollar stores. Flash drive prices have dropped considerably over the past year; 1 gb drives are often available at electronics, discount and office supply stores for less than $10. If your student does not have a flash drive other options are available to transport files home.

Road Construction Road work continues on the I-94 corridor from 9th Street to South Westnedge Avenue with various closings of ramps including several at US-131. Check the MDOT web site for up to date information if you are traveling to West from other schools.
Work continues on the Moorsbridge/Romence intersection but the city promises it will be done in time for school. Watch for detours just in case!
Help Student Leaders Get Cash For Your Trash! Student Leaders would like you to keep your eye out for the following recyclable items….. Empty inkjet cartridges, empty laser cartridges, used cell phones, palm pilots and laptops. West Middle School can earn cash for the used items you bring in. Just bring in your recyclables for donation to the media center or front office. This collection will be ongoing - we will collect items all year round. Help us get cash for your trash!
