Chromebook giving you troubles?

Below you will find common problems and solutions to assist you when your Chromebook is not working properly.

My Chromebook will not turn on (Issue 1) 2017-06-28T10:00:42+00:00

THE PROBLEM:

You open up your Chromebook to get your work done, but when you open the screen nothing happens. You know you charged the device overnight, so it shouldn’t be a low battery issue. However, if you look closely, you might see a faint blueish-gray light to the screen.

HOW DO I FIX IT?

Ensure the device is charged. Open your Chromebook. Hold down the power key for an extended period of time – 30-60 seconds. You will notice that the screen will go from almost black to completely black. Shut the lid. Wait 10 seconds. Open the lid and your device should be ready to go.

THE PROBLEM:

The Chromebook has a black screen and won’t turn on.

HOW DO I FIX IT?

Your Chromebook has a great battery life and can last for an entire school day, but it does need to be charged. Plug the device in for several hours and try to power the device on once more.

THE PROBLEM:

You or your students go to use the Chromebook and it is reading everything on the screen to you in it’s fabulous computer voice.

HOW DO I FIX IT?

To turn off ChromeVox, click on the area in the bottom right corner where the clock is located. Select “Settings” Scroll down to the bottom and select “Show advanced settings…”. Scroll down until you see the “Accessibility” section. Uncheck “Enable ChromeVox (spoken feedback) Close the Settings window. You can also turn it off by clicking on the hand, clicking on “Accessibility”, and clicking on “ChromeVox” to uncheck it.

THE PROBLEM:

You go to use your Chromebook and everything on the screen is rotated 90 or 180 degrees.

HOW DO I FIX IT?

To turn the screen image, all you have to do is click three simple keys… ctrl+shift+refresh button

THE PROBLEM:

You or your student are typing away on your Chromebook and all of a sudden you realize when you type the “s” key, it is no longer an “s” but instead a “o”.

HOW DO I FIX IT?

To change your keyboard layout you can either: 1) Press Alt+Shift to switch between different input methods, or 2) Press Ctrl+space to switch to your previous input method. (If they don’t remember the keystrokes, they can just click on the bottom right corner, choose the keyboard option, then choose US)

THE PROBLEM:

You or your student have a keyboard showing up on your screen, even though you are not using a touchscreen and have no desire to use your mouse to type.

HOW DO I FIX IT?

You can turn off the onscreen keyboard by clicking on the hand icon in the lower right corner of your screen, clicking on “Accessibility”, and clicking on “On-screen keyboard” to uncheck it.
