Schools of Choice

Participation in the State of Michigan legislation regarding schools of choice is voluntary. Portage Public Schools elects to participate only in the Out-of-County (105c) program but does not participate in the In-County (105) or In-District programs.

The District offers other Transfer Program options for eligible resident and non-resident students who qualify though an application process.

Families who apply to attend a school outside their boundary-assigned school should wait to enroll until after they receive a decision letter.

 Application Deadlines:

  • February 1-March 31: Window to submit applications for the next school year and open enrollment window for Out-of-County (105c) applicants. Notified of decision in May.
  • May 15-September 1: Second round to submit applications for the next school year and will only be considered if space permits. Notified of decision before school starts if possible. Please note that this application window closes as of the first day of the school year.
  • December 1-December 31: Window to submit applications for second semester of current school year and open enrollment window for Out-of-County (105c) applicants. Notified of decision in January.
