Travis Thomsen, Ph.D.
Dr. Travis Thomsen is in his fifth year at North Middle School. Dr. Thomsen has served as an elementary teacher in Battle Creek Public Schools, a middle school science teacher and assistant principal in the Orange Unified School District (Orange County, California), and most recently, as the Director of West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics. As a teacher, Dr. Thomsen served as: science department chair, student council advisor, a member of the leadership team, consulting teacher through the California beginning teacher program, and coach of middle school athletics. As an administrator, Dr. Thomsen oversaw two successful, high-performing schools in both Michigan and California.
Dr. Thomsen is originally from mid-Michigan and attended Western Michigan University for his undergraduate studies. Dr. Thomsen secured a position with Battle Creek Public Schools for one year and then relocated to Southern California. During that time, Dr. Thomsen obtained his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Cal State Fullerton. Dr. Thomsen earned his Education Specialist degree from Grand Valley State Univeristy and his Ph.D. from Eastern Michigan University.
Mr. Craig Medd
Mr. Medd has been a part of Portage Public School since he graduated from Western Michigan University in 2005. He first entered the classroom as a Middle School Social Studies instructor. Through the first part of his career as an educator, Mr. Medd has coached several different sports and has held many leadership roles throughout the building. After receiving a masters degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University, Mr. Medd moved into his role as the Assistant Principal in 2011.
