♦ Please note: If you enroll during a school break (winter/spring/summer), please do not send your new student to school until you hear from the school staff. There may be a delay if offices are closed. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to meeting with you soon.
1. Getting started
We are now accepting enrollments for the 2024-25 school year and will continue accepting enrollments for the 2023-24 school year. Please start by checking your home address in our Attendance Boundaries, then click below on the category that applies to you.
2. Registration
The next step is to complete the “New Student Online Enrollment: Application Form”
This is an application only. Enrollment will not be complete until the required documents have been submitted.
This application should be completed only by families who live within the District boundaries or who have received an approval letter to attend from outside of the district.
If you are moving to the area but do not yet have an address, please wait until you have an address to complete this enrollment application.
3. Finalize Enrollment
Please read below for the list of documents you must submit to finalize your child's enrollment.
The following documents must be submitted to finalize your child’s enrollment:
Parent/Guardian Photo ID and proof of guardianship if applicable.
Birth Certificate – Original may still need to be verified in person this fall must be verified. If you need assistance with obtaining a copy of your child's birth certificate please view the Vital Records Assistance information at the bottom of our Community page.
Proof of Residency – Recently dated gas, electric, trash, water, or utility bill; property tax bill; lease; mortgage; or renters or homeowners insurance. A driver’s license or cell phone bill cannot be used as proof.
Immunization Records – A MCIR Consent Form must also be submitted with immunization records for new students moving to Portage from out-of-state. A Kalamazoo County Health Department Immunization Waiver or Medical Contraindication form may also be submitted in place of immunization records.
Hearing/Vision Screenings – Kindergarten/Young 5s only

Health Appraisal – Kindergarten/Young 5s only
Current Transcript – High School students only
These documents can be submitted electronically during the online enrollment process, can be emailed to the school, or can be dropped off in person. Proof of Residency will be required for you to submit your online enrollment application. If you choose to bring documents to the school office, please follow these guidelines for when to visit the school:
Young 5s – Grade 5: Families are encouraged to finalize enrollment during the elementary enrollment hours: 9:30-11:30 am OR 1:00-3:00 pm, or by appointment.
Grades 6 – 8: Families are encouraged to make an appointment with the school’s guidance office to finalize enrollment to allow time for course selection and student assessments, as needed.
Grades 9 – 12: Families are required to make an appointment with the school’s guidance office to finalize enrollment.
All students can expect to start within three (3) school days of receiving all of the documentation necessary to enroll.
