Employment at PPS
PPS serves nearly 8,800 students each year, and it takes approximately 1,400 people, including 500 teachers to make it happen. We have eight elementary schools, three middle schools, three high schools, along with preschool and daycare programs.

Substitute Teachers & Third Party Staff
We are always in need of high quality paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, and secretaries. Apply through EduStaff or call 1-877-974-6338.
Substitute Teachers: We are always looking for substitute teachers at Portage Public Schools. If you are a retired MI teacher, please contact Amy Blankshain in our Human Resources Dept. at 269-323-5183. If you have at least 60 college credits and are NOT a retired teacher, please apply at the EduStaff link above.
Bus Drivers
Base wage – $21.55/hour (plus perfect attendance awards, and additional $2.00/hour if waiving health insurance when eligible)
Benefits – Health insurance available to all route drivers, retirement through State of Michigan Office of Retirement Services, paid training
Typical hours – Early am and afternoon totaling 20-25 hours per week on average. Trips available to add hours which often take place on evenings and weekends

Student Supervisors
Provide general supervision to students on the playground, in the cafeteria, or in school hallways
Base wage – $13.10/hour Employed through EduStaff
Typical Hours – School days only. Shifts are flexible with primary need in the middle of the school day (10a-1p) during recess and lunch hours. Additional hours may be available depending on the needs of each school

Food Service Workers
Base wage – $15.00/hour. Employed through Chartwells (a division of Compass Group)
Typical Hours – School days only. Shifts are typically 4-5 hours in length. Perfect job for those with school aged children to be home when they are. No evening, nights, or weekend work required
