breadlift 2024

It's time again for the annual Breadlift! Are you ready to roll?

The time-honored tradition of fundraising by Portage Northern High and Portage Central High will kick off this weekend, Saturday, Nov. 16.

This year, students from both high schools will canvas Portage neighborhoods to raise money for Pediatric Heart Transplants at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital. Students will be going door-to-door collecting donations in exchange for a loaf of bread.

Unlike in years past, the schools will do their canvassing on different days of the month. Please keep an eye out for our PPS students during the following:

  • Portage Central: Saturday, Nov. 16, in neighborhoods south of Centre Avenue and West of 12th Street.

  • Portage Northern: Saturday, Nov. 23, in neighborhoods north of Centre Avenue and east of 12th Street.

The charity was chosen in honor of Portage Central student Jenna Howard who tragically passed away last year. In Jenna’s memory, the students want to help aid families battling Congenital Heart failure. With your help, students can help C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital provide these families with the best care possible.

In addition to door-to-door donations, the community is invited to support the cause with online donations. To donate to the cause online, please visit the Breadlift page on Michigan Medicine's Donor Drive.

The tradition began in 1966 by a group of Portage Northern High students. Over the last 58 years, over 20,000 students have knocked on doors to raise over $535,000 for charity.
