Elizabeth Lewis is passionate about building awareness around mental health. The senior at Portage Northern High School sought out the help of two PPS staff members to do just that.
Lewis worked with Coordinator of School Mental Health Initiatives Marianne Joynt and Liz Dodson-Walker, mental health support specialist, to expand the mental health resources provided to students and their families on our District website.
The Student and Family Resources website now includes a plethora of resources under a variety of mental health-related topics including suicide/crisis, grief and trauma, depression and more.
“I think our mental health is often overlooked," Lewis said. "This website will hopefully bring much needed awareness to our community and give people the resources they need to feel better. I believe the more we understand how to care for ourselves, the stronger we become.”
The site also includes information on social-emotional learning as well as links to local and other resources for food, clothing, housing and education.
The resources site can be accessed through Students, Parents & Families or the Student Health & Well-being page, which is linked on the homepages of every school site. You can also find the resources under Students on the main PPS website menu.
