Our Portage Public Schools students are doing amazing things everyday in our classrooms and beyond!

February is Career and Technical Education month and we want to shine a spotlight on our talented students. Follow along with us this month as we highlight the high school students enrolled in a variety of CTE programs designed to help prepare them for their future careers.

CJ DeVisser hopes to one day be the magic behind movie star hair in Hollywood. But today, they are spending part of their school day at the KVCC School of Cosmetology and Barbering.

CJ, a junior at Portage Northern High School, is enrolled in the CTE Cosmetology pathway.

"I've always wanted to do something creative, and my grandma was a cosmetologist," CJ said. "I like the fact that this career is creative but also helps people."

CJ would love to one day work on a movie set as a hair designer. They gain similar experience today working backstage on hair and makeup for theater and plan to find a job working in salon after graduation.
