A partial calendar for the 2025-26 school year was approved by the Board of Education Monday, July 21.
A complete 2025-26 school year calendar is not yet available due to ongoing contract negotiations with the Portage Education Association. The partial calendar covers August and September, and the District will also follow the Kalamazoo RESA Common Calendar for major school holiday breaks.
A monthly District calendar will be established and affirmed by the Board until a complete school year calendar is approved between the Board and the PEA. You can view the School Year Calendar at portageps.org/o/pps/page/school-year-calendar.

The Summer Learning Student Showcase was a success for both elementary and middle school students. At elementary level, students chose their own recipes and cooked their own food for a tasting with their families. From smoothies, salsa, tacos, and more, the students showed off some impressive chef skills! 🌮🥪🍓
At the middle school level, summer learning came to a close with the presentations from students on sustainability and their very own podcasts on a topic of their choosing. Students argued the pros and cons on a variety of topics including universal healthcare and cellphones in schools.
Great job, summer learners! 🥳👏

Thank you to the pediatric dietitians from Bronson who met with our students at Summer Learning to teach them about the power of a balanced diet. 🍎🥖 Students learned about the macro nutrients that fuel their bodies such as protein to help them run and jump and carbohydrates that give them energy. 🥪🥗🍿

Please join us in welcoming our new Superintendent Johnny Edwards! You can hear from Superintendent Edwards on his plans for the future of our school district on our website at portageps.org/page/supt90.

The Summer Learning program started with a lesson on the power of student voice. A special thanks high school Forensics students who volunteered their time to help our elementary students find their own voices!

Today we recognize Juneteenth, a Freedom Day honoring the official end of slavery in the U.S. on June 19, 1865. It's a day for celebration, but also an opportunity to acknowledge the progress still needed to ensure justice for all.
