Student lowered into makeshift pit

On Friday, November 3, Portage Northern High School hosted its Fall 2023 Career Expo.   In the Dog House, 28 presenters from a variety of different industries donated their time to interact with the 113 students who were in attendance.  Students had their choice of 4 presentations to attend during the event.

The most unique, "popular" career topics, by the numbers, included:

  • The FBI
  • Forensic Science
  • Real Estate
  • Tattoo Artist
  • Excavating
  • Healthcare (non-clinical and techs)

The overall consensus from staff who attended:

  • The students were highly engaged.
  • They were eager to get to the next session.
  • They stayed after and went early to talk to some of the more unique presenters / topics.
  • We had no issues with cell phones or any disruptive behavior.
  • All students were completely respectful, professional and positive.

PACKstrong SHOUT OUTS go out to the following:

  • Seniors Jackson Laskarides & Kiera Sims who rocked the whole session as student volunteers!!
  • Portage Northern Parents Compass, Hardings & Tim Hortons for donating food for our presenters!
  • Our Expo Presenters for donating their time and expertise to our Huskies!
  • The PN Staff/Administration for supporting this event!  At Portage Northern we see that not all students have the same path and that we can offer so much insight and awareness to them if we provide a variety of post-secondary options.
