The Portage Public Schools Board of Trustees announced that it has selected Michigan Leadership Institute (MLI) to lead the search for the next Superintendent of Portage Public Schools. Current Superintendent Mark Bielang recently announced his intention to retire at the end of the 2024-2025 school year.
“Michigan Leadership Institute is Michigan-based, and focuses on meeting the needs of Michigan school Districts," said Andrew Ingall, MLI Regional President, in a presentation to the PPS school board last week. “Superintendents who have been appointed through the MLI search process have demonstrated outstanding leadership and longevity. We attribute this success to our intentional efforts to present candidates that best match the goals, vision, and values of the school districts/organizations."
Portage Public Schools Board President Randy Van Antwerp said, “We are looking forward to a robust process that will lead us to the best possible candidates for the next Superintendent of Portage Public Schools. We are confident that with the assistance of MLI, we will work immediately to develop a timeline and process that will ensure that we have the right next leader in place in time for the 2025-2026 school year.”
Portage Public Schools will be posting information and updates about the Superintendent Search on its website at www.portageps.org, including an opportunity to participate in a community survey and in other feedback opportunities. People interested in the search process are invited to check back regularly, or sign up for the PPS App or the Apple Store of Google Play to receive notifications.
