Our Portage Public Schools students are doing amazing things everyday in our classrooms and beyond!

February is Career and Technical Education month and we want to shine a spotlight on our talented students. Follow along with us this month as we highlight the high school students enrolled in a variety of CTE programs designed to help prepare them for their future careers.

Gurdeep Singh, a senior at Portage Northern High School, said KRESA’s Engineering in Wood Technology program is giving him real-world career experience.

His long standing love for woodworking was inspired by his older brother who encouraged him to join the woodworking program when he first started high school.

“This program gives you opportunities to gain high-level experience working with machines,” Gurdeep said. “I’ve made a lot of different projects like a bookshelf, and in this program you learn everything down to detailing and finishing.”

Gurdeep plans to earn his certification and work in the woodworking industry after graduation. What type of woodworking Gurdeep doesn’t know yet, but he hopes to continue designing and building in his future career.
