Freshmen and New Student Orientation is right around the corner!

Freshman Orientation is Monday, August 21 from 8 am to 11:30 am. It will be held in our Gymnasium. Incoming 9th graders should arrive by 7:45 a.m. and wait outside the gymnasium doors until they are welcomed in by our Link Crew Leaders. This portion is for students only, and Freshmen will receive their schedules during this time.

Then, from 11-11:30 am, parents are welcome to return to the Auditorium to hear all kinds of information from our principal, Eric Alburtus.

Lastly, if your child is going to participate in Athletics, Theatre, or Forensics anytime during their high school career, please stay for a Code of Conduct meeting with Joe Wallace, our Athletic Director, and Nikki Smith, our Activities Director. This meeting will also be held in the Auditorium and go until about 12:15 pm. If you are staying for the Code of Conduct meeting, we will direct your children to the Auditorium after Freshman Orientation.

We can’t wait to meet you all and are excited to welcome you to the PCHS family. If you have any questions about Orientation, please contact Nikki Smith, Activities Director, at nsmith@portageps.org or 269-323-5265.

New Student Orientation

And, if you’re a transfer student, please plan to join us at 1 p.m. in our Auditorium on Monday, August 21st, to meet some upperclassmen and tour the campus. Guardians are welcome. You will be provided with a lot of information about Portage Central, get a tour of the school, have the opportunity to stop by the counseling office regarding your schedule, and have a chance to get to know other students before the school year starts. We look forward to seeing you too!

For returning sophomores, juniors and seniors…

Wanna see your schedule?

That is easy! Just take a look at your Skyward account on Monday, Monday 21. Remember, we don’t print your schedule, and remember too that any schedule-change requests happen during the first week of school.

Don’t forget!

Wednesday, August 23 is our Open House

The Portage Central High School Open House will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd from 6:30 pm to 8 p.m. There will be an Activities Fair in Centennial Park, weather permitting (otherwise it will be held in the Commons), so students can get club information before school starts. There will also be an open Meet and Greet to get to know your students’ teachers, find your lockers and classes, purchase Lunch/Parking/Athletic passes, and visit the school store. This is a great opportunity to get to know Portage Central High School before school actually starts.

Plus, we will have ice cream! Sweet Caroline’s will be in Centennial Park selling their incredible treats! What better way to spend an evening than to be with friends, getting ready for a new year – with ice cream?! See you there!

Thank you, water polo players and coaches!

There is so much to get done around here as we prepare for the school year, and there is no way we would be ready without the help and support of colleagues and students around here. For example, our water polo team came out and did a ton of weeding and mulching so that McCamley Knight Field looks for our dedication celebration on August 24. Please come out for the dedication, for the game afterward – and to see the great work our kids did!

Thrilled to hear the band practice, to see athletes working, and all of us getting geared up,

Eric Alburtus
