Congratulations to our tennis team!

The Mustang Tennis Team finished 8th at the State Tournament. With all the teams that play tennis in the State of Michigan, this means we are in the top 5%. The Mustangs had 5 flights of quarter finalists and 2 flights of semi-finalists. An outstanding finish for an outstanding team.

Fall Formal coming soon!

PC in Wonderland, the Fall Formal Dance, will be held on Saturday, November 11. This curious event will start at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10 per student. You would be a Mad Hatter not to pick up your tickets from the Welcome Center starting Monday, November 6. Guest forms are also available at the Welcome Center and will need to be filled out for any guests who do not attend a Portage Public School. You won't want to be late, late for this very important date as the forms are due Wednesday, November 8. You won't want to miss this dance, where everything is nonsense & you can create a world of your own!

You might be receiving a letter from College Board

College Board is sending letters to some families with students that they believe might be interested in AP coursework based on their test scores.  We begin scheduling for next year in the spring, but now is a great time to start thinking about coursework that will challenge and excite your student.  We offer advanced coursework in the things you probably expect like Science, Math, English, and Social Studies.  And some you might not, like Sports and Exercise Science, Psychology, Art, and Business.  You can find a complete list of all of the IB and AP classes that we offer at PC in the Program of Studies. If you have any questions about our IB Program or our AP classes, please reach out to our IB/AP Coordinator Jason Frink at JFrink@PortagePS.org

Don’t forget!

There is no school this Friday

We are doing a series of training sessions for all our colleagues here. So we hope all our kids enjoy the day – safely!

Parent-Teacher Conferences are right around the corner

Conferences are Monday, November 6 and Wednesday, November 8 from 3:30 to 7:15 p.m. Like the last couple years, parent-teacher conferences will continue to be online through Google Meet. Take a look right here – Parent Instructions – so you have all the information you need so you can connect with colleagues here, and we will keep the open and healthy communication going.  Thanks!

Start your Holiday shopping now!

Our Alumni Association Craft Show is coming up next weekend! Get all your Holiday shopping done on Saturday, November 4th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. here at Portage Central High School. We have amazing crafters with a huge variety of items. And, our Mustang Alumni Association utilizes the money made to help support our PC students. It’s a Win-Win!!!

Just a reminder…

The social studies department would really appreciate your input!

The Portage Public Schools K-12 Social Studies Department is dedicated to offering an inclusive, rigorous, and real-world education to our students. As we are starting our curriculum review cycle and working to create a curriculum that aligns with K-12 courses and the Michigan content standards, we are asking for your feedback before October 27 to guide our work in the coming months and years. Please take 5-10 minutes to offer us feedback. The results of this survey will help guide our upcoming discussions, decisions, and work. If a question does not apply please feel free to leave it blank. Thank you!

PC Marching Band concludes 2023 season with an incredible performance at East Kentwood!

PC Marching Band was incredible at the East Kentwood Invitational on Saturday, October 21. They threw down an awesome final performance and hyped some unplanned special effect rain showers during the ballad and closer. PCMB earned 1st place in class A with a score of 96.2 and all caption awards including Best Music, Best Marching, Best Percussion and Best Color Guard. This will be a season to remember and the PCMB is so grateful for our wonderful PC Admin, Volunteers, Parents/Families, Students, Staff, and PC Community. #WithOpenEyes #PCMB2023

A reminder on guidelines on community-service hours

All community service hours must be served in person with a non-profit organization. We are fortunate to have so many local non-profit organizations that do terrific work for members of our community -- and they need our help. That’s why we want to do everything we can as a school to support them -- and that’s what our community-service hours and recognitions are all about. Only hours of service done for non-profit organizations count toward PC recognitions, such as our academic-awards programs, our National Honor Society, and our International Baccalaureate curriculum, to name only a few. Service hours can only be authorized by an adult who is directly affiliated with the activity and who is not a relative. (Sorry… PC students cannot be the authorizing adult.)

Additionally, service forms must be submitted to Mr. Brown in room 1133 no later than four weeks from the date of the service hours. Example: Service date October 1 must be turned in by October 29. Click here for information on our Community Service Award and service form. If you have questions, please get in touch with our community-service coordinator, Rob Brown, at rbrown@portageps.org.

Really thankful,

Eric Alburtus
