Did you get a survey about PC athletics?

If you have a student-athlete at Portage Central, you should have received an email with a survey to get your insight on how we do our best work for all our kids. If you did not receive that email, no worries: email Athletic Secretary Jodi Shearer at jshearer@portageps.org, and she will send that to you right away. Thanks!

Feedback on PC Athletics, if you do not have a student-athlete in your family

As you can see above, if you have a student-athlete, you should have received an email asking for your feedback about PC Athletics.

And if you don’t have a student-athlete in your family, we also want your feedback. The role of athletic director for our students and community of Portage Central is an intense one. It requires a great deal of time and thoughtfulness for our wide variety of programs, so that we can provide the experience we aspire to, for our kids. As we look for a new colleague for this role, we would be very grateful if you could share your perspectives and values by responding to this survey by March 7.

Save the dates!

Parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner

We have two sessions: Tuesday, March 5 and Thursday, March 7. They start at 3:30 and end at 7:15 each evening. Both sessions are online this spring.  Colleagues here pulled together a

step-by-step guide to show you how to connect with your daughter’s or son’s teachers.

Thank you – and see you there!

Thank you for coming to 8th Grade Family Night

Thank you so much to all the families who were able to attend!  Most importantly, thank you as a family for talking and thinking and making so many important decisions in the days ahead.

Just as a reminder, here is a link to our program for yesterday evening, and here is the presentation that guided us through the evening’s conversation.  It is so important that we keep these conversations going, so we do right by all our kids and so they are all in their best classes come next fall. So as you have questions and thoughts, please reach out anytime. Thanks for this!

A reminder about how tardies work

A tardy is when a student arrives within the first nine minutes of their class.  Tardies cannot be excused by parents and guardians, including first-hour tardies.  Each student is given four "free" tardies per class, per semester. After four tardies in a class, our tardy consequences apply. (Please see the GLIC by hitting this link for the complete absence and tardy policy. )

Save the dates if you are interested in football!

“Woodland Helpers” Club looking for volunteers

One of the IB Diploma Program requirements asks students to take a leadership role on a project that they create.  Two of our current IB Diploma students have started a project called “Woodland Helpers.”  This program is a tutoring program for elementary students at Woodland Elementary that aims to help the children academically, while simultaneously building a mentorship relationship between the high school student and the elementary student.  They are looking for additional responsible high school students who work well with elementary aged children to join them so that they can help more kids.    The program runs from 3:00 pm to 3:30 pm every Thursday.  If your child is interested or has any questions, please have them contact Izzie Loso at isabelle.loso@portageps.org or Emily Pierce at emily.pierce@portageps.org .

Thankful to beginning to meet so many new folks in our Mustang community,

Eric Alburtus
