Our Daily Announcements to our students
We would so appreciate feedback from our families
Last week we as a district emailed a link to a survey for all families, so we can get your feedback on what is working well – and most importantly, what is not. We are not a perfect place, and we are not a perfect people – and we care deeply about our kids and our community and the work we do, Together. We would be so grateful if you could take a few minutes to share your thoughts at this link: Portage Public Schools – Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey
The survey will be open until next Friday, April 19. Thanks for this!
Don’t forget to save the date!
Underclassmen Achievement Awards are coming Thursday, May 4
…and you are invited to attend in person or via livestream! Freshmen, sophomore, and junior award recipients are invited to their grade-level assembly and will have an opportunity to mingle with family and friends for photos in Centennial Park for a short time following their assembly. Stay tuned to Mustang Minutes for the awards program and a specific assembly schedule in the weeks ahead.
Speaking of awesome dates…
Share the date of graduation with friends and family!
And while you do that, you can also share with them this presentation that we discussed with all our seniors a week ago. In that presentation you will be able to see all kinds of details about where to sit at the Mustang RideOut and at Wings – plus so much more. We can never be too ready for this wonderful celebration.
Take a look at your report card!
Quarter three (Q3) report cards have been posted to all student Skyward accounts. Your student's current report card, along with all previous report cards and transcripts, can be found in Skyward under the "Portfolio" tab. Off campus class grades (ie - online classes, dual-enrollment classes, KAMSC and CTE/EFE) are not posted on the quarter 1 or quarter 3 report cards and will therefore be left blank. Grades in these classes are only posted on a student's semester 1 and semester 2 transcripts. Please check with the program directly for more information on these class grades.
Just a reminder of how to go to prom and spend less money…
Tickets are officially on sale for A Night in the Clouds
The Junior & Senior prom will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. at the Western Michigan University Fetzer Center. Come fly with us as we enjoy a night of dancing, caricatures, bracelet making, and so much more!
Students can purchase their ticket at the Welcome Center or online at pchsboxoffice.ludus.com.
If you purchase online, your student needs to stop by the Welcome Center with their student ID to obtain their physical ticket.
Tickets are $30 until April 15, $35 until April 26, and $40 at the door. Tickets are cash only at the Welcome Center.
Students can bring a guest to prom but will need to fill out a guest dance form, which they can pick up at the Welcome Center. Northern and Community High students do not need a guest form to attend prom but MUST bring their student ID with them.
So fly me to the moon and get ready for a beautiful evening!
If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Smith-Moore at sesmith@portageps.org
Want to clear out the beverage cans in your garage?
Members of the women’s water polo team are here to help!
Coach Samantha DeVries and her student-athletes are stopping at houses and taking all the returnable beverage bottles and cans to raise money for their team. (They just came to my house last Saturday, which was such a huge help to me!) Drop her an email – sdevries@portageps.org – to see if they can do the same for you! Words, words, words…
Too, the water polo team is hosting a Go Gray Game for Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research. The 2nd annual Go Gray Game will help to raise money for brain cancer research through cash donations prior to the start of the Varsity and JV game on April 30th (Varsity at 6:15 and JV at 7:15). Former Mustang water polo player, Elizabeth Green Walker, died of glioblastoma brain cancer last year. Long-time CMS teacher Sandy Yonker's daughter, Becky Yonker, also died of this terrible disease. Last year we raised $1,000 and are hoping to raise even more this year with your support. Wear Gray and Bring some cash!
Forensics Friends and Family Night on Tuesday, April 30th
Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 30, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. if you would like to attend the Forensics Friends and Family showcase. This evening is a celebration of their season and promises to be an entertaining night of performances. The evening will be broken into two parts: Act 1 is "Forensics for All" where everything performed will be appropriate for everyone in the family. After a short break we will have Act 2, which is "The Heavier Stuff"--while obviously not anything beyond what students should be performing, this section will feature pieces that are more mature and may not be suitable for all audiences. This event is $5 per person and tickets will be for sale on Ludus.com beginning Monday, April 15th. If you have any questions, contact Nikki Smith in the Activities Office: nsmith@portageps.org.

A request from two of our awesome seniors…
Do you have some office supplies you would like to donate?
We are holding a fundraiser April 15-19 and are encouraging students to bring in new school supplies teachers may need for these last few months and for the upcoming school year. The purpose of this fundraiser is to help teachers resupply their classrooms with necessary materials, like Expo markers, writing utensils and even tissues!
We will have bins in the entryway for students to drop off their donations as well as an incentive of Sweetwater Donuts before school starts to encourage students to help out. If there are any questions, please contact Braedyn Pleune or Daniel Lopez Portillo (braedyn.pleune@portageps.org daniel.lopezportillo@portageps.org ). Thank you!
