Step by step to graduation!

Ready or not, graduation is right around the corner, so make sure you are ready for all of it by reading through the Step by Step to Graduation; just hit this link! You will see all the dates and times to make sure you are right where you need to be.

It’s not too late!

We would so appreciate feedback from our families

Two weeks ago we as a district emailed a link to a survey for all families, so we can get your feedback on what is working well – and most importantly, what is not. We would be so grateful if you could share your thoughts at this link: Portage Public Schools – Parent/Caregiver Experience Survey

The survey will be open until tomorrow, Friday, April 19. Thanks for this!

Forensics Friends and Family Night

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, April 30, 7p.m.-9p.m. The evening will be broken into two parts: Act 1 is "Forensics for All'' where everything performed will be appropriate for everyone in the family. After a short break, we will have Act 2, which is "The Heavier Stuff"--while obviously not anything beyond what students should be performing, this section will feature pieces that are more mature and may not be suitable for all audiences. This event is $5 per person and tickets are on sale at this link. Forensics Friends and Family Night Tickets

Tickets are on sale now for A Night in the Clouds, but they are going fast! We are limited in capacity, so please get your tickets soon, or there won’t be any left!

The Junior & Senior prom will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 8 p.m. - 11 p.m. at the Western Michigan University Fetzer Center. Come fly with us as we enjoy a night of dancing, caricatures, bracelet making, and so much more!

  • Students can purchase their ticket at the Welcome Center or online at pchsboxoffice.ludus.com.

  • If you purchase online, your student needs to stop by the Welcome Center with their student ID to obtain their physical ticket.

  • Tickets are currently $35. Tickets are cash or check only (made out to PPS) at the Welcome Center.

  • Students can bring a guest to prom but will need to fill out a guest dance form, which they can pick up at the Welcome Center. Northern and Community High students do not need a guest form to attend prom but MUST bring their student ID with them. A Portage Central student must buy a ticket for them to attend.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Sarah Smith-Moore at sesmith@portageps.org

From our awesome PTO!

Staff Appreciation week – yes WEEK -- is coming up May 6-10. The PTO will be celebrating the staff with a variety of treats and surprises.

Take a look at the Staff Appreciation Sign Up Genius - we would be grateful for any donations.

*Please drop off donations to the welcome center on either Friday, May 3rd or Monday May 6th. Make sure to label the items PTO Staff Appreciation Week.

Also, the PTO would like to send a hearty THANK YOU to PCHS families for all of your contributions this school year.  Our teacher friends tell us they love it when we are able to feed and spoil them with yummy treats. It was a great help to have donations for conference dinners, welcome back breakfast, and various other PTO events. We truly couldn't do it without your support.

Some thanks going out to some of our incredible students!

On April 4th the Portage firefighters played a charity basketball game here against the Detroit Lions Legends, all former NFL players. Students from our National Honor Society worked the concession stand and donated all the profits – $621 – for local charities like the Great Lakes Burn Camp. Our thanks go out to Ian Imus, Ben Beneke, Perry Pringle, Latina Salifou, Verity Poisson, Orion Sun, Leo Sun and Elizabeth Wick!

Don’t forget to save the date!

Underclassmen Achievement Awards are coming Friday, May 3 during the school day

…and you are invited to attend in person or via livestream!  Freshmen, sophomore and junior award recipients are invited to their grade-level assembly and will have an opportunity to mingle with family and friends for photos in Centennial Park for a short time following their assembly.  Check out the program here to see if your family member is earning an award, and stay tuned to Mustang Minutes for a specific assembly schedule in the weeks ahead.

Save the dates for the upcoming 2024-2025 School Year!

Monday, August 19, 2024 is Freshman Orientation

Freshman Orientation goes from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 19th. It will be held in the Portage Central High School Gymnasium. Incoming 9th graders should be here by 7:45 a.m. and wait outside the gymnasium doors until they are welcomed in by our Link Crew Leaders. We can’t wait to meet you all and are excited to welcome you to the PCHS family! If you have any questions about Orientation, please contact Nikki Smith, Activities Director, at nsmith@portageps.org or 269-323-5265. More information will be coming your way later this year.

Wednesday, August 21, 2024 is the PCHS Open House

The Portage Central High School Open House will be held on Wednesday, August 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be an Activities Fair in Centennial Park, weather permitting (otherwise it will be held in the Commons), so students can get club information before school starts. There will also be an open Meet and Greet to get to know your students’ teachers, students can find their lockers and classes, you can purchase Lunch/Parking/Athletic passes, and visit the school store. This is a great opportunity to get to know Portage Central High School before school actually starts.

Featured Summer Sports Camp of the week: Registration opens May 1!

Hey there, Mustang Families! Each summer, our amazing athletic programs host summer camp opportunities for our student-athletes to continue to develop and improve. Take a look at this week’s featured Summer Sports Camp! Our women’s basketball team advanced all the way to the regional finals, and we want to do all we can to keep supporting all our female athletes so they can build on this success!

Excited and just a little sad that graduation is right around the corner,
