6th Grade Orientation

Hello 6th Grade Families!

We are very excited that your child will be attending West Middle School, and we look forward to seeing them at our 6th Grade Orientation Day on Monday, August 21st. Our WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) Program will help get your 6th grader off to a great start! WEB is a nationwide program designed to welcome and support 6th graders by connecting them with WEB Leaders, who are positive, responsible, hand-selected 8th graders.

Please read through the following details to help make orientation smooth for your 6th grade student.

Details & What to Expect:

  1. DROP OFF: This is a student-only function.  Please drop off your student in the front of the school and they will enter through the main doors.  We will take good care of them!

  2. Lunch is provided during orientation!  That’s right!  We’ll be eating lunch in the school cafeteria. This will give them experience on the how and what of lunch in middle school and we will be serving pizza. If your child would like to pack their own lunch, they can do so and drop it off in the main office when they come in.

  3. ATTIRE: Because the day is active, please make sure that your child wears comfortable clothing and shoes.  We are going to be all over the building!

  4. SCHEDULES & LOCKERS: Students will receive their schedules and lockers on this day and the building will be open throughout the week if they want to set up their locker and practice their schedule a few times. See times below

  5. WHAT TO BRING: Your student is encouraged not to bring backpacks, cell phones, purses or other like items as the day is quite active. Cell phone use is not permitted.  Our school policy is off and away.  All they need to bring is their awesome selves.

  6. PICK UP: You may park in the front parking lot and come into the NEW GYM at the south end of the building at 12:00. The principal, Mr. Messenger, will be there to greet you and share a few words of encouragement while you wait for your student to come TO YOU with their chromebook, schedule, and locker by 12:30.  At that time your student can walk you around their schedule or you can come back another time during the week to walk through and practice. We need 6th graders and families to exit before our next orientation for new 7th/8th graders by 1:00pm.

Attention 6th grade band families:  Mr. Kozian will be fitting 6th grade band students for an instrument immediately following orientation on Monday, August 21.  Fittings will take place in the STEAM commons (located near the band room & bus loop entrance) immediately following 6th grade orientation.  This session is for any student who did not meet with Mr. Kozian for instrument fittings in the spring.  Fittings will take place from 12-2p.

We look forward to a great orientation day!
