Portage West Middle School celebrated our 50 Year Anniversary on Wednesday, September 27th. Members of the community came to West where they received tours of the building from our WEB leaders, connected with fellow alum and teachers (current and former), and listened to performances by our music department. Food trucks lined the bus loop where families, students, and guests enjoyed meals. Our book fair was open for all attendees to peruse and purchase reading material, posters, and school supplies. Mr. Moon facilitated a brief presentation where we heard from our school administrators, Superintendent Mark Bielang, play-by-play announcer Lisa Byington, 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist Lindsay Tarpley, and watched a video about Portage West, then and now. We had former staff members and students attend, including those that were apart of the original staff and student body in 1973! We were able to honor the past 50 years of West and be inspired as we enter the next 50.
