On Tuesday, October 17th, members of our Red Ribbon Week committee, additional Portage West students, and 2 former West students (currently attending Portage Central and Portage Northern) read a Red Ribbon Week 2023 Proclamation in front of the Portage City Council and other community members at the city council meeting. Each student stated their name and grade before reading the proclamation which will go into the records for the City of Portage.
Mrs. Schnurstein, our Red Ribbon Week sponsor, has lead our school's efforts for years and was present to celebrate her students. West was recognized for our Red Ribbon Week activities the last 3 years by Mrs. Jihan Young, Vice Chair of the City of Portage Human Services Board and member of the city's Red Ribbon Week committee.
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated annually across the country. The week highlights the importance of living a drug free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year.
