Thursday, January 30th, 27 young ladies traveled to Kalamazoo Valley Community College - Texas Township Campus to attend the MLK Beyond the Dream Celebration where their mentor, Portage City Councilwoman Jihan Young, was being honored, along with 5 other community members. Councilwoman Young has been coming to West every Monday since January 2024 to meet with groups of girls during their lunchtime. The group discusses leadership qualities, stress and time management, goal setting, and more.
The girls were excited to learn about their invitation to the program! They met Dr. L. Marshall Washington - President of KVCC, Dave Morgan - President and CEO of YMCA of Greater Kalamazoo, and other administrators and community members.
